Handwoven in Qom, Iran, this Persian rug exemplifies the precision and artistry for which the city is renowned. Qom weavers are known for producing finely knotted rugs with intricate designs, often drawing on classical Persian aesthetics and spiritual symbolism. This piece features a prayer arch motif, a design deeply rooted in Persian weaving tradition, symbolising a sacred space for reflection and devotion.
The central field is structured around a pointed mihrab, filled with a dense arrangement of floral and vine motifs. Stylised blossoms and scrolling tendrils create a sense of movement within the arch, while diamond-shaped compartments add depth and complexity. The composition is meticulously balanced, with each element mirrored to enhance the symmetry of the design. The rich red field serves as a striking backdrop, amplifying the elegance of the ivory, blue, and green detailing.
The border, framed by floral and geometric patterns, reinforces the structure of the rug while softening the intensity of the central field. Repeating rosettes and scrolling vines create a rhythmic flow, guiding the eye along the edges and emphasising the balance between the interior and exterior elements. The use of contrasting tones in the border enhances the visual impact, framing the prayer arch with clarity and refinement.
Woven with a fine wool pile on a cotton foundation, this rug combines durability with a crisp, defined weave, characteristic of Qom craftsmanship. Its proportions make it ideal for a personal space, study, or traditional setting, where its symbolic design can be appreciated both aesthetically and culturally.
A piece of both artistic and cultural significance, this Qom rug invites reflection and adds a touch of Persian elegance to any interior.

If you need help finding a rug to suit, or if you've seen a rug that you like but it's not quite the right size, let us know and give us your minimum and maximum sizes and we can help you find the perfect rug.
How do I care for my handmade rug or carpet?
Handmade Persian and Oriental rugs should be vacuumed regularly, we always recommend that where possible you should use the suction-only setting on your vacuum as it is more gentle on the pile and will help prolong the life of your rug. However we do recognise that most people will use the brush bar and this of course does a more thorough job.
Key is to ensure the rug does not become overly dusty a small dust and debris particles like sand can be sharp and can cut through the fibres over time.
We do suggest you be careful nearer the tassels (fringes) and sides (selvages) of the rug as these get caught in a vacuum.
On top of this we recommend professional rug cleaning every 5 years or so, this will help remove ingrained dust and dirt and refresh the rug, ensuring it maintains its looks for years and even generations to come.
