This Persian Hussainabad rug is defined by its unusual colour balance: a warm, faded-rose field is held within deep brown-black stepped contours, then lifted by ivory and clear blue details. The contrast gives the large central medallion real presence without making the room feel overly formal. At its centre, the ivory lozenge and blue diamond create a quiet point of focus, while the surrounding floral pattern keeps the eye moving across the field.

Its densely drawn ornament is particularly effective on this scale. Rows of small flowers, leaves and angular vine forms give the pink ground a textured, almost mosaic-like depth, while the multiple narrow borders contain the composition with a crisp decorative frame. The darker corner areas are especially useful visually, giving the rug definition beneath furniture and preventing the lighter central colours from appearing too open.

In a living room, it would anchor a substantial seating arrangement and bring warmth to dark timber, aged leather or neutral upholstery. It also suits a more collected interior, where its rose, ivory and blue palette can connect painted furniture, old textiles and ceramics without relying on a single dominant colour. For someone drawn to Persian rugs with a clear medallion structure but wanting more colour and movement than a conventional red-and-navy design, this hand-knotted Iranian rug has a notably expressive character.

If you need help finding a rug to suit, or if you've seen a rug that you like but it's not quite the right size, let us know and give us your minimum and maximum sizes and we can help you find the perfect rug.

How do I care for my handmade rug or carpet?

Handmade Persian and Oriental rugs should be vacuumed regularly, we always recommend that where possible you should use the suction-only setting on your vacuum as it is more gentle on the pile and will help prolong the life of your rug. However we do recognise that most people will use the brush bar and this of course does a more thorough job.

Key is to ensure the rug does not become overly dusty a small dust and debris particles like sand can be sharp and can cut through the fibres over time.

We do suggest you be careful nearer the tassels (fringes) and sides (selvages) of the rug as these get caught in a vacuum.

On top of this we recommend professional rug cleaning every 5 years or so, this will help remove ingrained dust and dirt and refresh the rug, ensuring it maintains its looks for years and even generations to come.
