The Antique Afghan Ersari Rug is a testament to the rich cultural heritage of the Ersari tribe, known for their distinctive weaving traditions in Afghanistan. Hand-knotted with meticulous care, this rug embodies the artistry and dedication of its creators, offering a glimpse into a world where craftsmanship and tradition are deeply intertwined. Its wool construction speaks to the authenticity and durability expected from a piece rooted in such a storied past.
The rug's design is a harmonious blend of intricate patterns and vibrant hues, dominated by a rich red palette that is quintessential to Ersari aesthetics. The central field features a repeating octagonal motif, often referred to as the "Gul" pattern, which is emblematic of tribal identity and cultural symbolism. The borders are adorned with geometric designs that add depth and complexity, creating a visual narrative that is both captivating and timeless. The interplay of dark and light tones within the motifs lends the rug a dynamic quality, inviting the observer to explore its detailed craftsmanship.
This rug is ideally suited for a spacious sitting room or a grand hallway, where its intricate patterns and bold colours can be fully appreciated. It serves as more than just a decorative piece; it is a cultural artefact that enriches your living space with a sense of history and authenticity. If you need help finding a rug to suit, or if you've seen a rug that you like but it's not quite the right size, let us know and give us your minimum and maximum sizes and we can help you find the perfect rug.
How do I care for my handmade rug or carpet?
Handmade Persian and Oriental rugs should be vacuumed regularly, we always recommend that where possible you should use the suction-only setting on your vacuum as it is more gentle on the pile and will help prolong the life of your rug. However we do recognise that most people will use the brush bar and this of course does a more thorough job.
Key is to ensure the rug does not become overly dusty a small dust and debris particles like sand can be sharp and can cut through the fibres over time.
We do suggest you be careful nearer the tassels (fringes) and sides (selvages) of the rug as these get caught in a vacuum.
On top of this we recommend professional rug cleaning every 5 years or so, this will help remove ingrained dust and dirt and refresh the rug, ensuring it maintains its looks for years and even generations to come.
