There are thousands of examples of Persian & Oriental rugs that have been passed down generations, becoming treasured family heirlooms increasing in value with age. Rugs can and have lasted hundreds of years even when used under-foot. The reason behind this is their construction and quality but also because they are repairable. Unlike machine-made or tufted rugs, hand-knotted rugs can have fringes secured and sides re-bound, holes and tears repaired and even entire sections re-woven.
Unfortunately many people throw out old, damaged or worn rugs. As a rug seller this may be counter-productive to say but please do not throw out old rugs, if you’re determined you no longer want your rug we’d be happy to take them off your hands, even if it’s just to use the wool for repairs!
Almost any repair imaginable can be carried out from a quick secure of an unravelling fringe to re-knotting entire areas of a rug. Of course not every rug is worth substantial repairs and only special rugs are worth the investment required for restoring large sections of carpet that needs to be re-woven but the option is always there and we’re here to recommend the available repairs and what is best for your type of rug.
